Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Fight Draws 40 Million Viewers on Netflix

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Terence Crawford’s victory over Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez in Saturday night’s boxing match in Las Vegas drew more than 40 million viewers on Netflix. Based on a combination of VideoAmp data, the fight averaged 36.6 million global viewers per minute from start to finish and reached 41.1 million within a day. In the United States alone, it attracted around 20.3 million live or same-day delayed viewers.

The match ranked as the No. 1 most-watched title on Netflix in 30 countries, including the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the Philippines, and placed in the top 10 in 91 countries overall.

In recent years, Netflix has shown increasing interest in broadcasting live sporting events. Last November, citing TVision data, the platform announced that the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight averaged 74 million live viewers per minute. The joint event that same night—Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson—remains Netflix’s most-watched fight to date, with Netflix reporting a record 108 million viewers. By contrast, the Taylor-Serrano bout in July, measured by VideoAmp, reached 6 million live or same-day delayed viewers.

Methods of measuring viewership vary across platforms, making direct comparisons difficult. TVision monitors 5,000 smart TVs, whereas VideoAmp claims to draw from “a proprietary blend of aggregated data” covering 39 million households and 63 million devices.

Netflix is scheduled to release its weekly list of the Top 10 most-watched titles today, Tuesday.
